Biography

Grégoire's date of birth is problematic. He is listed in the Donaldsonville Census of 23 Apr 1777 at age 4; and recorded at his death in January 1849 at age 78. His older sister, Anne Madeleine, was born in 1770, and his younger sister, Anne Marie Ellizabeth, was born in 1774. It is therefore likely his birth year was around 1772 (which is the opinion also of noted Acadian genealogist Karen Theriot Reader). He married Françoise Luce Hebert [Hebert-4253], daughter of Jean Baptiste Hebert [Hebert-1770] and "Laure" Bourg [Bourg-473] in Plattenville in 1797. She bore him twelve children, the youngest bearing the same name as his father. Gregoire died in January,1849, and was buried in Plattenville.
