Research Notes
The following needs to be written as an interpreted narrative for this profile and the "sources" added inline, where applicable. The point of view of the below is Polly's husband, and hearsay is included. Paragraphs should be used.
James Madison Sands was born about 1797 in Nelson County, Kentucky and died after 1870 and before 1876 (I have seen the date of about 1872) in Missouri, probably in Benton County, Missouri.
He married Mary "Polly" Lee on April 18, 1820 in Ohio County, Kentucky. James M. Sands and his wife Mary were recorded in the 1870 Benton County, Missouri census, but not in the 1876 Benton County, Missouri census. She was born about 1795 in Virginia and died after 1870 and before 1876 in probably Benton County, Missouri. Mary "Polly" Lee's parents are unknown.
But Mary "Polly" Lee might have been a daughter of James Lee and Nancy Mayse of Knox County, Kentucky. Some researchers of the James Lee family have said that James Lee had a daughter Mary "Polly" Lee that married a Mr. Sands, but Mr. Sands first name is not known. Also, on the 1820 marriage license of James Sands and Mary "Polly" Lee it is stated that a Mr. Henry Crow knows that Mary "Polly" Lee is of legal age to marry and that Mary "Polly" Lee's parents live on the Cumberland River. James Lee and his wife and family were living in Knox County, Kentucky in the 1820 census. The Cumberland River runs through Knox County, Kentucky. So, maybe James Lee and Nancy Mayse are the parents of Mary "Polly" Lee or maybe they are not. James Madison Sands supposedly served in the War of 1812 from Kentucky, but his pension application was denied.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
I was poking around, and I found that a number of the mentioned descendant of James and Mary are already on Wikitree. These are, at least, James H Sands (Sands-2176), Granville Robert Sands (Sands-2796), Nancy Jane (Sands) Fewell (Sands-107), and Robert Wesley Sands Sr. (Sands-2356).
I took the liberty of adding James Henderson Sands (Sands-2176) on the strength of sharing a household with Charles G in the 1850 census. I don't feel comfortable adding the others myself. Although they appear to be the same individuals as the ones mentioned here, I could not find corroboration in my brief searches, and do not have access to many of the records that you mention in the above. If you still do have access to these records and are comfortable that these are the correct individuals, it would be great if you could add them as children of Mary (Lee) Sands.
