Biography

Daniel Benoit is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 6 Right, Le Bon Papa. Listed with him is his wife Henriette Legendre and their daughter also named Henriette.[1]

Henriette was born in 1751. She is on the census taken by le Sieur de la Roque at Isle St. Jean in 1752, age 18 months. [2][3]

Francois and Marguerite and three children including Henriette, Francois and Anastasie were deported in 1758 to St-Malo, France. Henriette was the only child to survive the voyage.[4]

She married Daniel Benoit (1748-1825) on 9 February 1768 at St. Servan, Ille-et-Vilaine, France. [5]

  2. Jeanne Eleonore Anastasie BENOIT 1772-1772
  3. Henriette Reine BENOIT 1778-1843

On September 1784 she and her husband and their daughter are on the Census taken at Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, France.[6]

Daniel BENOIT, with wife Henriette LE GENDRE, 1 daughter, for a total of 3 in family.

The family of three debarked at the Port of New Orleans on 29 July 1785 to begin their new life.[7]

Henriette LEGENDRE, age 32, wife of Daniel BENOIT, traveling with him and a daughter as the 26th family (of 3 persons) aboard "Le Bon Papa."

She passed away in 1798. [8]

Henriette, age 46 years, widow of Daniel BENOIT, buried 17 Feb 1798 (SJO-4, 11).
