Benjamin Bartlett Longan was born on 18 Sep 1881, in Protem, Taney County, Missouri, United States, to John Bowles Longan & Eliza Doniphan (Cook) Longan.[1] He was the third of eight children, and the oldest son. He was likely named after his maternal grandfather, Benjamin Cook.
He married Ada Belle Crippen on 9 Sep 1906 in Seneca, Newton County, Missouri, United States.[2][3][4] They were both living in Wyandotte, Ottawa County in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma), when they were married. They had seven children together.
Jessie Mae Longan was born on 21 Oct 1907 in Wyandotte, Ottawa County, Oklahoma, United States.
Ben enjoyed hunting, training hunting dogs, and belonged to the Oklahoma Wolf & Fox Hunting Association.

From Miami News-Record (Miami, Oklahoma), 30 August 1935:
"Ben Longan and daughters, Maurine, Vona and Veda, all of Collinsville, Okla., and Mrs. Jessie Hobgood of Tulsa, Okla., were visiting relatives in this locality last week."[5]
Ben's unlce, Jake Longan, was his first school teacher in Protem, Missouri, when he was growing up.

Ben Longan was a champion fiddler, and played at many square dances.
