Benjamin Mackey was born about 1717 to Joseph Mackey and Ann Sweethen in County Armagh. He married Mary Williamson on 1 April 1742 in a Quaker ceremony in Ballyhagan Monthly Meeting, County Armagh. [1]

He was still living on 19 September 1793 when he was disowned by Richill (formerly Ballyhagan) Monthly Meeting by the following having been entered into the minutes on that date: “Benjamin Mackie Sen’r is deprived of the privilege of sitting in Mens Meetings on acct. of his Continuing in the practice of paying Tythe tho he was often admonished by friends to the Contrary.”[2]
