Biography

Joseph Mayo was born on 22 December 1696 in Hingham, Plymouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay, the son of John and Hannah (Freeman) Mayo.^[1]

He married Abigail Merrick February 20, 1717/18 in Harwich.^[2] She was born about 1699 in Harwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts, the daughter of Benjamin Merrick and Rebecca Doane.^[3]

The will of Joseph Mayo of Harwich, dated 3 September 1773 and proved 13 June 1775, mentioned wife Abigail, daughters Elizabeth Mayo, Lydia Mayo Baker, Eunice Winslow and Abigail Freeman, sons Moses, Thomas, Issac and Nathan, and children of eldest son Joseph, deceased.^[3]
