Jean Metra was born about 1738. He was the son of Jacques Metra and Jeanne Veuvre.

He married Acadian exile Marguerite Bourg, widow of Jean-Baptiste Guillot, on 5 February 1765 in Pleudihen. [2] Charles Boudraut and Étienne Boudraut were among the 4 witnesses, who signed.

Their children were:

In September 1784, they were on a list of Acadian families in Nantes who wished to establish themselves in Louisiana. [3]

Jean, Marguerite and their daughter Anne-Marguerite left France in August 1785 aboard L'Amitié and reached New Orleans in November after three long months at sea. [4]

In December 1795, Jean and Marguerite were listed on a census in Lafourche. [5]
