Alfred was born in 1888. He was the son of Charles Humphrey Minchin and Edith Fennell.
He married Jean Darling Smith in 1915.
They had a daughter, Bessie Paterson Minchin born December 1916 in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Alfred was working as a Carpenter when the 1st World War broke out. He enlisted and departed in April 1916 from Wellington, New Zealand to Suez, Egypt HMNZT 49 or HMNZT 50. Vessel was Tahiti or Maunganui.
He served as a Sapper with the 11th Reinforcements New Zealand Field Engineers, No. 2 Field Company; New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
In 1976 he was living at 8 Minchin Crescent, St. Andrews, Hamilton, New Zealand.
He passed away on 2 November 1978 at the age of 90.
