William Morton is the son of Joseph Morton and Agnes Woodson. He was born in 1743, and passed away in 1820.
William married Susannah Watkins on 29 Sep 1794. After marrying, William took Susannah to a plantation home provided by his father. The 1810 U.S. Federal Census, pg 58 shows William living in Charlotte, VA.
William and Susannah had 10 children:

4. Harvey (1773-1796)
5. Mary (1779-1836)
6. Joseph (1780-1855)
7. Susannah "Susan" (1785-1836)
8. Jane (1787-1861)
9. Mildred (1789-1875)
10. Lucy (1798-1872)
William was active in the Charlotte County government, and in many different roles. He was a judge, coroner, tax collector, sheriff, and delegate.
MILITARY: Revolutionary War
About 1775, William Morton was a Colonel in the Continental Army, commanding a company of militia he raised himself. On 15 Mar 1781 he fought at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Col Morton is credited with killing British Col Webster, a personal favorite of Cornwallis.
