There was a Leland Mullins listed in the 1840 census living in Spring River, Barry County, Missouri[10]
By 1850, he appears to have moved to Lawrence County, Missouri, where he is listed with 9 other people, presumably his wife and 8 of their children. Curiously, his wife is listed as "Arvilla". This might lead one to suspect that this is some other Leland (although Arvilla could be a misreading of Amilla where the 'm' gets read as an 'rv'), except that the youngest four children listed, namely Henry, Lafayette, Jane, and Leland Jr. also appear in the 1860 census record.[1]
The 1860 census lists the family as residing in Prarie Township, Madison County, Arkansas. The oldest four children (William, Patrick, Sarah, and John), appear to have left the household, and we see the addition of Nancy C. Also listed is "Milly" which is presumably a nickname for Amilla, and possibly the same as "Arvilla" (since their birthdays are only 3 years apart and they come from the same state).[2]
In the 1870 Census Leland and Milly are listed as living in Arkansas with Eliza and Sally Roseberry, ages 14 and 10 respectively.[3] The relationship of Leland to Eliza and Sally is not known at this time.
Finally, in the 1880 census, Leland is listed as living with his nephew John W. Reynolds and his family in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.[4]
Occupation
Leland Mullins' occupation is listed in 1860 census as a 'cabinet maker'[2] and in the 1880 census as a 'carpenter'.[4]
