Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
John Nelson was a Maryland colonist.

Birth date is a loose estimate and may be off by several years.

According to Dern and Tracey, John's wife is named as Jane in a 1743 land transaction, where John and Jane divided the tract of land "Sweed's Folly" between sons-in-law Elias Delashmutt and John Delashmutt.[1]

John wrote his will on 4 September 1750; the will was probated 5 October 1750. The will names children John Nelson, Bazzell (Basil?) Nelson, Lydia Nelson, Valentine Nelson, Sarah Delashmutt, and Elizabeth Delashmutt, and Arthur Nelson; John's wife is mentioned but not named.[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Nelson-4967 and Nelson-12550 appear to represent the same person because: Father's name matches; death date matches; both have daughters Sarah who married Delashmutt.
