Biography

1776 Project
James Palmer served with 4th Regiment, Essex County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

James Palmer born in Methuen, MA in 1749 married Elizabeth BARKER in 1772 in Methune and resided in Bradford, MA where it is believed they had the following child: James (1775-1807). James is listed in the 1790 census as living in Methune with 1 male and 6 females; he does not appear in the census of 1800 or 1810.

James Palmer (1749-1786), served with his brother Asa (1760-1815) in the American Revolution in a company commanded by Capt. David Whittier of Methuen, in a regiment commanded by Maj. Benjamin Gage Gage-3129. This company marched on Oct. 2, 1777 to reinforce Northern Army. He served 40 days.

James (1775-1807) married Abigail SMITH 1796 in Plaistow, NH. James died in 1807 in Haverhill, MA as a result of drowning. James & Abigail had the following children: James (1796-1858), Moses (1798-1881), Abigail (1800-1859), Samuel (1802-1803), twins Joseph (1806-1885) and Benjamin (1806-1882) and Mary (1803/4-1867). The latter married Jonathan Avery in 1821.

I have added James Palmer (1775-1807) as a son of your James and also an Avery-Palmer Tree and Palmer Narrative. James' daughter Mary is my 2nd g-grandmother.
