Biography
Robert was Cherokee.
Robert was born September 10, 1832 in the Cherokee Nation (East), the son of Samuel Parks, a white man, and Susannah Taylor Parks, a Cherokee. He emigrated to Indian Territory as a young man and is found on the 1851 Drennan Roll living in the Delaware District. [1] He married Clarissa Rider (also Cherokee) on November 22, 1859. They were the parents of one child, Sterling Price Parks. [2] Robert enlisted in the Cherokee Mounted Rifles at the start of the Civil War, rising to the rank of Lieuenant Colonel. His daybook from the war is preserved at Daybook. Robert was murdered on April 12, 1864. [3]

Parks should of said, Col Watie for Parks to shove Butler and then laugh and call him a coward was too hard for Mr Butler to bear I think the most of men that had any pride or feeling would done the same, I have seen Cap Butler but once since, he said he wanted to see you but thought it best not to go to Camps yet he says he intends(?) to be tried(?) but the present(?) excitement was too high here(?) with Parks friends for him to get a just trial.
