Leroy Elmer was born on February 16, 1924 in Rockland, Maine. Roy was the son of Marv Peasley and Della Moulden.[1]

Due to the financial hardships in the family, Roy and his brother, Harold, went to live at the Bath Children's Home in Bath, Maine, when Roy was eight.[2][3][4] While there he attended Morse High School.[5]

Roy joined the Marine Corps and served at Camp Shangri-La (now Camp David) guarding President Franklin Roosevelt.[3][4]

On October 9, 1948, Roy married Mary Esther (Herrick) Hester, gaining a stepson, John Thomas.[6][7][3][8] Mary died in 1949.[8]

In 1953, Roy graduated from the University of Maine at Orono.[3] Roy taught at schools in New York, Vermont, and Maine.[3]

Roy passed away on January 28, 2022 in Rockport, Maine.[3]
