Marie (Pothier) LeBlanc is a descendant of an Acadian
Marie Elizabeth Pothier was the daughter of Augustin Pothier and Marie Anne Pothier.[1]
She was born October 9, 1864[1] in Tusket Wedge, Nova Scotia[2][3], and was baptised October 15, 1864 at St. Michael's[1] in Tusket Wedge.[3]
She grew up in the family home located along the Nicholas Road in Tusket Wedge.[2][3]
She married Severin LeBlanc, the son of Joseph "Gros Joe" LeBlanc and Marie Rosalie Pothier, on January 20, 1885 at St. Michael's.[4]
The couple settled on Big Fish Island, located at the mouth of the Tusket River, where her father-in-law worked as the lighthouse keeper, a position her husband would take over in 1889[5], and where they raised their family of 9 children[1]:
Marie Elizabeth died June 28, 1933 in Yarmouth Nova Scotia[14], and her funeral was held June 30, 1933 at St. Michel's in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia.[14][3] She was buried at St. Michael's Parish Cemetery in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia.[15]
There are discrepancies in the sources. "Genealogy Saint Michael's Parish Wedgeport 1767-1925" Page 257, Line 1628 says she was born October 9, 1864, and was baptised October 15, 1864, as does the French language edition entitled "Les familles du Bas-de-Tousquet (Wedgeport) 1767 à 1900 : paroisse Saint-Michel de Wedgeport". Her Death Registration says she was born October 20, 1865, but the 1864 birth date is consistent with her reported age at death of 68. Her Marriage Registration says she was 21 as of the date of her marriage on January 20, 1885.
