Biography

Elizabetha was the youngest child of Jacob and Elizabetha Schnell. She was probably born in or near Mannheim, between 1701 and 1710; however, see the Research notes in the profile for her father for new information about her origins and baptismal records in Europe.

She would have been about four years old when her family arrived in New York in 1710.

29 Sep 1711: 4 persons over 10, 2 persons under 10 are recorded for the household of Jacob Schnell, her father, on the Hunter Lists. Elizabetha would have been one of the 2 children under 10.

1723: Elizabetha Schnell/Snell married Johannes Empie, in Montgomery County, New York. The couple had 9 children:[1]

  1. Margaretha Anna Eva (1724- ) m Christopher Schultheiss/Schultz
  2. Philip (1726- ). Joined Capt. Soffrines Deychert's Company in March 1757. He was a Loyalist and went to Canada in 1780.[2] He married Maria Elisabetha Barbara Schultheiss/Schultz.
  3. Wilhelm (1728-1803). Joined Captain Soffrines Deychert's Company. Remained a loyalist and went to Canada. He married Maria Margaretha Laux.
  4. Anna Margaretha Eva (1730- ) m Wilhelm Casselmann
  5. John Frederick (1730-~1795) m Maria Elisabetha Schultheiss/Schultz
  6. Adam (1734- ). His will probated 8 Dec 1783, in Stone Arabia.
  7. Johannes (1742-1825 ) m Anna Maria Kilts. Buried in Sharon, NY.
  8. Anna Maria born 8 Jan 1744
  9. Johann Jacob (1752- ) baptized Nov 1762 in Stone Arabia. Died Aug 1777 at the Battle of Oriskany

Schnell-429 and Schnell-158 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates; merge into lower number.

Snell-851 and Schnell-158 appear to represent the same person because: Obviously the same person. Suggest retaining the LNAB as Schnell--not Snell--because that what is used in the German church books recording the births of her older brothers. That is, merge Snell-851 into Schnell 158
