Biography

William B. Snow was born on September 6, 1763 in Granville Ferry, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, British Maritime Provinces. He was the son of Jabez Snow and Elizabeth Doane who had emigrated north in 1762 from Cape Cod (Eastham, Barnstable County), Massachusetts Bay Province, New England, to Nova Scotia after the British forced French-speaking Acadian settlers to leave.[1]

William B. Snow married Margaret Quigley, b. April 14 1770 in Nova Scotia, in 1787 in Westport, Digby County, Nova Scotia. The couple lived in Westport and had the following 10 children, all born in Westport, Smith Cove, Digby County, Nova Scotia, British Maritime Provinces: [2]

  1. Elizabeth Doane Snow b: 27 OCT 1788 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  2. William Quigley Snow b: 27 OCT 1790 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  3. Hannah Snow b: 8 DEC 1792 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  4. Ann Snow b: 15 JAN 1795 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  5. Jabez Snow b: 25 MAY 1797 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  6. Pamela Andrews Snow b: 4 OCT 1799 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  7. Wentworth Quigley Snow b: 12 JAN 1802 in Westport, NS
  8. Margaret Quigley Snow b: 26 DEC 1804 Westport, Nova Scotia
  9. Deborah Snow b: ABT. 1 JAN 1806 in Westport, Nova Scotia
  10. Mary Emeline Snow b: 12 OCT 1811 in Westport, Nova Scotia; d: 2 DEC 1898 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA, unmarried.[3]

Note: Many family genealogies say that William Snow married a "Margaret Winchester" but this is not proven. It may be that Margaret Quigley re-married after William's death and became "Margaret Winchester;" there were Winchesters living in Digby County, Nova Scotia. In any case, no children have ever been found for a "Margaret (Winchester) Snow".

William B. Snow died in 1826 and is buried at Westport Cemetery, Smith's Cove, Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada.[4] No Find A Grave Memorial has been found for either William B. Snow or Margaret (Quigley) Snow.
