Biography
The death of Curnan mac Aed is recorded in The Annals of Tigernach T559.4
The Battle of Cúl Dreimhne [1] (also known as the Battle of the Book) occurred in 560AD. One legend, written a thousand years after the alleged events, was a result of the copying of a book belonging to Saint Finnian by Columcille and ensuing quarrel between Saint Finnian and St. Columba about the ownership of the copy (whether it belonged to Saint Columba because he copied it or whether it belonged to Saint Finnian because he owned the original). King Diarmait mac Cerbaill gave the judgement, "To every cow belongs her calf, therefore to every book belongs its copy."
A more likely reason involved the 'violation of sanctuary' as mentioned in The Annals of Tigernach T559.4 when Diarmait mac Cerbaill killed Curnan while Curnan was 'ar comairce Coluim chilli - under Colum Cille's protection'.
