I see the strongly worded warning about eight children only, but given he gave one grandson, Seth, 5 pounds, I suspect there was a ninth child, a son, who predeceased him. Often when one or a couple grandchildren inherit like that it's because their parent has died and they are receiving their portion. I'm working on building out the tree for all Mark & Manuel's children to make it easier to find my branch (DNA confirmed but still a brick wall!)

I believe that Seth was very likely the son of Sarah, David's daughter. It is unknown who the father is. What is known is that Seth was witness to David Devoe's wedding and David was the son of Sarah and Conrad Devoe. David Devoe named one of his son's Seth, and Devoe was a middle name given to some of Seth's desdendants. There is documentation somewhere, too, that Seth's children said he had a brother named David. Sarah Stratton Devoe and Conrad Devoe had only one child, named David. We also know Sarah was admonished by the church for relations with men outside of marriage. Her sister, Amy, was as well.
