Biography

Nathan Jr was born and lived his life in Georgia. He married Charity Newbern about 1820, and they had 14 children, I finally found daughter Rachel Sweat. On some of the paperwork, she is listed as unknown so was hard to find. Indian War Lieutenant 584th District Militia, James A Sweat's Company Ware, GA

Nathan Sweat at the age of 39 was convicted of Cattle Stealing. in 1836 Conviction Place: Appling, Georgia, USA. The following is copied from Find-a-Grave. Father: Nathaniel "Nathan" SWEAT, Rev. Soldier Mother: Sarah JARRELL Parents buried in Bulloch Co, GA. Sources: Sweat Family Bible; Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia by Folks Huxford, Vol. IV, p. 328

Immigrations: 1825 Nathan and family moved from Bulloch County to the Glenmore area of Ware County, Ga. He, wife and many others are buried there.

Military: Between 1832-1835 Nathan was involved in the Indian Wars. Listed as 1st Lieutenant, 584th District Militia, Capt. James A. Sweat's Company, Ware Co, GA

Events: Around 07 JAN 1836 Nathan Sweat was convicted in Appling Co. for cattle stealing, sentenced to 4 yrs. in Milledgeville Penitentary. After that the Governor issued a proclamation for Nathan Sweat when he escaped from the Telfair Co. jail after conviction for cattle stealing in Appling Co, GA. On 30 NOV 1837 he was pardoned for said crime.

Occupations: 1842-1844 Coroner in Ware County 1851-1857 Justice of Peace, 1030th District in Ware County Farmer

He and his family of 12 appear in the 1840 Federal Census of District 584, Ware County, Georgia. There were seven males and five females in the household.

He and his family appear in the 1850 Federal Census living in Division 89, Ware County, Georgia. The household, all born in Georgia, included: Nathan Sweat, age 54, $700 of real estate; Charity, age 47, could not read or write; Eady, age 22; Thomas, age 18; Nathan, age 16; William, age 10; Randal, age 7; Alfred, age 5; Thomas, age 3; and Julia, age 1.

He and his family appear in the 1860 Federal Census living in Waresboro postal district, Ware County, Georgia. The household, all born in Georgia, included: Nathan Sweat, age 61, a farmer, real estate valued at $1200 and personal property valued at $1000; Charity, age 59; Randal, age 19; Alford, age 17; and William F, age 22, a farmer with real property valued at $500 and personal property valued at $1200. Enumerated next to them on that census were his son James Sweat with his wife Phebe, age 33 and their nine children, who had real estate valued at $1000 and personal valued at $1200; his son William, age 20 with his wife Sarah; his son nathan F, age 25, with his wife Lydia, and their three children; Julia Sweat, age 15; and the widow Mary Sweat, age 41, and some of her family.

He and his family appear in the 1870 Federal Census living in Subdivision 130, Glenmore post office district, Ware County, Georgia. The household, all born in Georgia, included: Nathan Sweat, age 74, farmer, real property valued at $500 and personal property valued at $600; Alford J, age 25, farm laborer; Julia, age 21, domestic servant; Caleb Street, age 22, farm laborer.
