Biography

JEAN AUCOING is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 7 Left, La Bergere arrivée le 15 Aout 1785. Listed with him is Jeanne Terriot, his wife, and their daughter Anne Felicite Aucoin.[1]

Jeanne Theriot was born 9 January 1725, a daughter of Jean Theriot and Marie Daigle. She was baptized 11 March 1725 at Saint Charles des Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadia. Her godparents were Charles Teriot and Anne Marie Dupuis.[2]

She married around 1746, nine years before the "Great Upheaval" of Acadians by the British in the Seven Years War. Her husband was [[Aucoin-522|Jean Baptiste Aucoin, son of Rene Aucoin and Madeleine Bourg, born about 1714 in Acadie.[3]

They apparently were caught up in the second wave of deportations, from Ile-Saint-Jean to France in 1758.[4]

They were counted on the census of 15 September 1772 in Saint-Malo, Ille-et-Vilaine, France.[5] They were in Nantes, France in 1784.[6]

They immigrated, arriving 15 August 1785 at the port of New Orleans, Louisiana. [7]

Jean AUCOIN, born 1712, was on "La Bergere" arriving at New Orleans in 1785 with wife Jeanne TERRIOT and daughter Anne-Félicité, age 19. Listed next was Marie-Anastasie AUCOIN, age 26, "wife of absent Joseph TERRIOT." There is a possibility she was the daughter of Jean and Jeanne.
