A previous version of this profile claimed, without sources, that she was Sarah St John, daughter of Matthew St John and his wife Elizabeth. Lacking any evidence of this connection, she has been detached from these parents and her name changed to Unknown.
More recent DNA testing has suggested that Sarah was the daughter of Matthew and wife Sarah. However, auDNA (autosomal) traced this far back is not conclusive. See G2G question and answer.
"The will of Sarah Gregory, widow, of Norwalk, is dated 9 October 1689. It mentions friends, Mr. Thomas Hanford and Sergt. John Platt, overseers; witnesses, John Fitch and James Betts. Inventory was taken 28 October 1689. And agreement was made 1 November 1689: sons-in-law John Benedict, James Benedict; sons John, Jakin, Judah, Joseph, and Thomas Gregory."[2]
There is a memorial monument to the settlers of Norwalk, including John, in the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery, Norwalk[3]
