Obituary: Mr. William James Newton Vidler, aged 86 years, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. T. H. Booth, in the Jamberoo district. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Vidler, a pioneer family of the district. They were a Kentish family and grew hops at Jamberoo (then known as Wood stock) when the first settlement of the coastal area was made, the making of yeast and beer being one of the early industries. The Vidlers, six brothers, who settled at Camden on arrival in New South Wales, stayed on and succeeded in other branches of agriculture at "Old Place." They were prominent Methodists and the late John Vidlar was a local preacher in the early sixties. Surviving children of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. J. N. Vidler are Charles (Q.), Stephen (Blayney), John (Camden), Ebenezer (Lismore), W. D. (Wollongong), Mesdames B. Nesbit (Goulburn), M. Nesbit (Sydney), T. H. Booth (Jamberoo). The funeral at the Methodist cemetery (Jamberoo) was largely attended, and the Rev. A. H. Johnstone officiated [5].
