Biography

Osseltje was baptised on 6 November 1687, recorded as a child of Johannes Wesbroeck and Magdelena Jans. Baptism was recorded at the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York. Witnesses were Marietje Rutsen and Derick Wesbroeck.[1]

She is not to be confused with Orseltjen Westbroek, daughter of Dirk Westbroeck and Catharina Oosterhout, who was baptized on 7 March 1697 and married Johannes Hoornbeek.

This Osseltje Wesbroeck appears to have married a man with last name of van Noy. She had a son Benjamin who was baptized at Kingston, New York, on 28 June 1724 and is named in her father's will; no father is named in the baptism record.[2] This son is Benjamin Van Noy.

She died before 25 January 1726, when her father made his will and mentioned Benjamin, the son of his deceased daughter Ursulla.

There are two different contemporary women of this name (first cousins) with Wikitree profiles, one baptized in 1687 and the other baptized in 1697 -- to different parents. Apparently(?) one died after having a child named Benjamin and the other married Johannes Hornbeeck and had lots of babies, one of whom was Benjamin.

The 1720 baptism record for son Dirk Hoornbeek confirms that the girl who married Johannes Hoornbeeck was Westbroek-12. Witnesses to Dirk's baptism were Dirk Westbroek and Cateleyntjen Oosterhout.

Thus, Westbroek-34 is the deceased daughter named in the will of Johannes Westbroek.

There were two Orseltje (Ursulla) Westbroeks, one b. 1687, father Johannes; the other born 1697, father Derick. Which one married Johannes Hoornebeek...Which one was Benjamin VerNoy's father....???

The Orseltje who was named in the will of Johannes as his deceased daughter who had a son Benjamin, may be the one who was the mother of Benjamin Van Noy. Benjamin seems to be the only Van Noy child, and he was born in 1724 (not long before that will).
