His grandson, my father, took up cabinet making in 1980. He made all of his children beautiful tables, cabinets, desks, secretaries, wine cabinets, china cabinet, & grandfather clocks. This must be where my father (Walter Rufus Whitt) received his gift to built and sometimes design his own, furniture.[2]
Thomas is the son of William Gibson Whitt and Sarah Ann Lockhart. Thomas lived in his parents household in 1850 & 1960 in Tazewell, Virginia, United States[3][4]
He married Patsy Ellen Mercer on July 23, 1868 in Virginia.[5]
In 1870, the couple lived in Jeffersonville, Tazewell, Virginia, United States with their first child, John William.[7]
By 1880, his family had expanded with five (5) more children and his father, William Gibson Whitt.[8]
On April 20 1881, my grandfather, Alonzo Whitt, was born, although the birth certificate says "Lawn Whitt" in Chilhowee, Smyth, Virginia, United States.[9]
On September 8, 1884, Maggie Whitt was born. I believe Maggie had a twin, Cora H. because her birth is September, 1888 as well. But, no mention of Cora is verified except on Details under Thomas' profile on FamilySearch.com.[10][11]
