Marian Łojszczyk has Polish Roots.

Early Life and Military Service

Marian Tadeusz Łojszczyk was born on 19 August 1917 in Błędów, Poland, to Aleksander Łojszczyk and Stanisława Pochwała.^[1]

By the spring of 1939, Marian was working as a chauffeur in Warsaw from 29 April to 8 July.^[2] He was called up for military service on 8 July 1939 and served as a soldier until November 1942.^[2][3]

Marriage and Family

On 26 March 1940, he married Waleria Weronika Zielińska in a Roman Catholic ceremony in Błędów.^[4][5]

War Experience and Forced Labor

Marian was taken as a Prisoner of War (POW) in September 1939. He later escaped, but was subsequently deported to Germany as a worker, arriving on 8 October 1942.^[6]

From 30 October 1942 until May 1945, he was a forced laborer (Kraftfahrer/driver) at Güldenhaus in Bremen, Germany.^[7] On 18 February 1943, he was listed as a resident of Zofianka, Gmina Błędów, in the official register of inhabitants.^[8]

Post-War and Immigration to Australia (1945–1950)

After the war, Marian remained in Germany as a Displaced Person. He was employed as a driver for UNRA in Pappenberg from May 1945 to June 1947. He was formally released from the Polish Armed Forces on 15 June 1947.^[3] He then served with the Civilian Mixed Watch Service (CMWS/CMLO) from 4 July 1947 until his discharge on 16 September 1949.^[9][10]

After a medical examination on 18 October 1949 certified him fit for emigration, Marian, Waleria, and their four sons departed Seedorf, Germany. They were granted an Australian visa in Naples, Italy, on 10 January 1950.^[11] The family sailed aboard the Castelbianco, arriving in Sydney, New South Wales, on 2 March 1950.^[12]

Life in Australia

On 14 March 1952, Marian was granted authority to remain in Australia indefinitely.^[13] By December 1952, he was a railway worker in Broadmeadow, New South Wales.^[14]

The family settled at 47 Lachlan Road, Cardiff, New South Wales, where they resided from at least 1963.^[15] On 27 March 1963, Marian, Waleria, and their four eldest sons were naturalized as Australian citizens in West Wallsend, New South Wales.^[16][17]

Marian retired on 19 August 1982 from The Broken Hill Proprietary Co. Ltd. after 22 years and 2 months of service in the Power Department.^[18]

He passed away on 2 April 1998 at the age of 80 at John Hunter Hospital and was buried on 6 April 1998 at Sandgate Cemetery.^[19]
