Disputed Origins

Parents detached. Francis Bernard and Alice Haselwood are NOT the parents of this John Barnard. See comment on Francis Bernard from Magna Carta where it says that the son of Francis Bernard probably remained in England; as well as sketch in Great Migration[1] where Francis is noted as closely related, but no mention made of parental relationship.

Biography

John Barnard, immigrant BARNARD ancestor, was born in England in 1607 (based on the estimated date of marriage), and came to New England at the age of thirty, with his wife Phebe, aged twenty-seven, and children Thomas King, aged fifteen, John Bernard, aged two, and Samuel Bernard, aged one year.
The name was spelled either Bernard, or Barnard. They sailed in the ship "Elizabeth," from Ipswich, England, April 30, 1634. The wife Phebe and her sons John and Samuel were legatees of her mother Anne, widow successively of Anthony Whiting, of Dedham, Essex, England, clothier, and of Thomas Weison, of Dedham, in will proved December 13, 1638.
Barnard settled in Watertown, and was a proprietor in 1636, admitted a freeman September 3. 1634, and was selectman 1644. He died in June, 1646, and was buried June 23[2] at Watertown. His widow Phebe died August 1, 1685, leaving considerable property.

A couple of questions: 1) Is it okay to remove the marriage info for Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Its from a user contributed tree. Recently published research gives the wife's baptism in Dedham, Essex (but no marriage record unfortunateyl)

2) Is the wife's birth in Dedham, Essex enough to give the same birthplace to her husband?

PPP lifted

I received a private message from David McKnight saying he would appreciate it if I would make needed changes.

So I will detach parents when a PGM leader temporarily lifts PPP. Thank you.

AnneB: regarding parents on this profile:

See notice from Liz on Barnard-54 re lack of Magna Carta connection.

please lift PPP so parents can be disconnected.

I checked all the sources (at least the ones I was able to access) on this profile.

I found NO source for the parents that are on this profile. I suggest they be removed, with appropriate statements placed on each profile.

I see that profile manager David McKnight is active on WikiTree. David, would you be able to detach the parents and make a statement on each profile - link them so they can be reattached in the future if an adequate source is unearthed?

Are there sources for these parents??

Leaders:

Please PPP this profile. See Disambiguation Notice. Thank you.

Barnard-152 and Barnard-1480 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same: same wife, same approx. birth, and same son John. But, Anderson in "The Great Migration" series states that John Barnard's origins are unknown, and he does not mention a father or a brother. So, unless there is a source for this information, it should be pruned from the profile, with a note in the Bio. Please merge. Thanks,
