Research Notes

Please do not attach Christian as daughter of William Browne-1251. The relationship has been shown on WikiTree in the past but was severed: no good evidence has been found for her being his daughter. See Research Notes on William's profile.

This biography currently has a mix of information which clearly does not all relate to the same person.

William Browne was removed as father. There are no primary source vital records, such as parish registers, or older vetted, published English records that show Cyprian or Christian Browne were children of Knight William Browne and his undistinguished French wife Mary Savage. Additionally their marriage (25 Jan 1588) is several years after the reported birth of Christian and Cyprian. Online family trees, such as Geni, are not themselves appropriate sources. See Space:Magna Carta Project Reliable Sources. Christian Browne Ames emigrated to early Massachusetts and is well enough documented with Vital Records for her life events in America but none of those records name her parents.

The name Cyprian has derived from a transcription from the original parish record in Bruton, Somerset. The name is spelled X (prob a shortening of Christ.) pian.
As a direct descendant of this profile I make the following observation: The marriage between William Brown, Knt and Mary Savage (a French-woman of no notable birth) took place 25 Jan 1588 after the birth of this profile. Additionally, Douglass Richardson in Vol. IV of the Magna Carta Ancestry does not include the name of Christian or Cyprian Browne as offspring of William Brown, Knt. and Mary Savage Brown. He does include 6 children names including those Browne's who emigrate to Colonial Connecticut. Christian Browne Ames people emigrated to early Massachusetts, a very different type of colony at the founding era.
The parents here are almost certainly incorrect. No evidence is given for this leap into the top aristocracy.

Browne-217 and Browne-2477 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband (spelled differently), same marriage date, same birth date, same son William with same birthdate.

I’d be very interested in documenting the parents as shown in Browne-217. If this is true, it makes William Browne a Gateway Ancestor to a Magna Carta Surety Baron (and makes Cyprian the aunt of documented Gateway Ancestor Nathaniel Brown). If it’s not true, the parents should be unlinked from Browne-217.

There are plenty of unsourced trees that tie Cyprian to William Browne-1251, however, there are others who say Cyprian's father William was born in Camus, France. I’d note most of the trees who link Browne-1251 to Cyprian say Browne-1251 was born in Bruton, Somerset.

Browne-1251 gives his birth location as Snelston, Derby and says his documented son Percy was born abt. 1604 in Flushing, Belgium (or alternately, in Vlissingen, Netherlands in 1602). Note, the Geni tree listed as a source for Browne-1251 says Percy was born in Snelston.

Although it’s not sourced, the Biography for Browne-1251 says his marriage “to an unnamed French woman” (Mary Savage or an earlier wife?) was in 1588, in other words, five years after the birth of Cyprian.

I can find no connection between Cyprian and Snelston. The records I’ve found show her only in Bruton.

Browne-217 and Browne-244 appear to represent the same person because: all data is identical. Please merge these profiles and explore any differences in the biography.
