DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Gene or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • Gene Dougherty: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 37 markers, haplogroup R-M269, FTDNA kit #914423
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Gene:

Gene, it's really great to see your y-DNA test propagating through the tree to my East Tennessee Daugherty cousins. I wondered if you've ever decided to upgrade to a more detailed test? I see you're in the ever-popular R-M269 haplogroup like my late brother Ray and our Lowe and Lau cousins. It would be fascinating to see what else can be discovered from that tiny chromosome!

Take care,

Karen

It is only a suggestion...but if you have been tested for DNA you should go one more step and post it at GEDmatch: https://www.gedmatch.com/login1.php

so that others may access your DNA and compare your genes with others of the same or possible matches.

Hi Gene,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like Ireland Project would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Adding the tag Ireland will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Hi Gene

I am pleased to confirm you as a full member, and welcome you to the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Please add as much information as you can, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Have fun collaborating
