Projects
There are several stories that have been passed down in my family that I'm attempting to verify or disprove.
Three brothers (Albert Georg, xy, xy) emigrated to the US, and another three (possible siblings) to South America. I've found one DNA match via gedmatch from South America, so perhaps I'll be able to learn their story.
Jewish: I remember being told that we were German-Jewish, and that there was a department store in Germany that belonged to the family. I found Israel's Department Store, which matches the stories, but I haven't been able to connect that family to my own. The other issue is that my family had the Israel surname well before the Jews were given the right to choose their own. DNA tests show that I have some Jewish ancestry, though, so I am trying to find that connection.
Family Bible: There is an old German family bible that was passed to relatives for safekeeping during WWII. Purportedly, it also contains a family tree dating back to the time of Martin Luther. I'm attempting to get in contact with the descendants of the family who supposedly took on the bible. It's also possible that it's in the possession of the Concordia Seminary, where some of my great-great uncle's belongings were sent after his death.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Adam or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Adam:

Hi Adam, Anthony (Roberts-39612) and Cindy are fifth cousins twice removed. Our DNA tests only marginally overlap, but Cindy has about 8cm overlap with a paper/DNA 2C1R of mine. I think this is strong enough to say highly likely confirmed - but the three of us don't share common DNA (I share with my 2C1R and he shares with Cindy as a 5C1R).
This week we have your last stop on the guided tour. Hopefully, you're feeling like a WikiTree pro! If not, you can always revisit the tour stops via the comment boxes on the right side of your profile.
You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. Today, we want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions! Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.
You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.
There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are coming together and you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.
You're getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now and collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.
Questions?? Just ask! If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.
Thanks, Cindy
PS-Good work so far! Have you noticed on ancestor profiles on bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try!
Hi Adam! Thanks for the third cousin info! I am excited about your journey to locate Israel ancestors! If my own experience and dedication are an example, you will still be searching with the same excitement fifty years from now! With DNA, however, your search may be much faster! Keep in touch! Phyllis
Will your pre-1700 focus be in a particular time period, location, or topic? Do you have some historically-significant ancestors? Look at the list of active projects to see if one fits your needs.
Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!
Please let us know if you have questions! Just click my name above the comment, then ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.
Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.
Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

WikiTree is a lot to learn and it sounds like you've got a good plan of taking it slow.
I've found it to be one of the best places to interact with experienced researchers, especially in various projects. They'll be ready when you are.
