I noticed that you posted on Lydia (Kibbey) Sutton (1665 - 1729)'s profile. Her profile is orphaned at this time, so no profile manager will be notified about your message. If you upgrade you will be able to adopt the profile and connect it to your branch, add your sourced information, and improve the profile. Any improvements that you make will help in the mission to create an accurate, single-family tree.

Always merge the higher ID number into the lower ID Number.

Thanks, David
That rule does not work when one surname has a much, much higher number of cases than the other, which is the case here. (“Unknown” has a huge number.). The best general advice is to use the surname in which you have more confidence. Lacking that, use the surname of the profile that has been there the longest, and/or is better developed. In any case, don’t merge into a profile on which the surname is doubtful. Tim
That is not the way merging works at WikiTree you always merge the higher ID number into the lower ID number.
The two profiles can be edited as to what to keep or be removed before the merge is completed.
See the above links on Merging and Merging FAQs.

WikiTree is a shared family tree project. See the mission and Honor Code. Profiles are not owned by individual contributors.
Even if you haven't approved any merges or Trusted List requests, the profiles that you add are still on a shared system. For example, let's say you created a profile of Benjamin Franklin. After you've created it, nobody else will create that profile. You can't later decide to delete it, any more than you could decide to delete the article on Benjamin Franklin from Wikipedia. It wouldn't matter if you started the Wikipedia article, you still couldn't delete it.
This isn't like deleting data on your personal computer. When participating on WikiTree you're participating on a shared, collaborative system.

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Thank you for upgrading as a member of the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have about WikiTree. Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.
Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.
The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.
To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.
Have fun collaborating on your ancestors
