Biography

Joseph was born at Port Royal about 1698 the son of Pierre LeBlanc and Madeleine Bourg. He was age 2 on the 1700 census of Port Royal.[1]

He married Marguerite Bourgeois, daughter of the late Germain Bourgeois and Magdelaine Dugas 20 January 1721 at Port Royal. Signed by Joseph Leblanc, Simon Leblanc, J. Bourgeois, Guillaume Blanchard and Joseph Bourgeois.[2][3]

Joseph and his wife Marguerite had ten children:

  1. Magdelaine (LeBlanc) Le Blanc (1721-1788)
  2. Marguerite (Leblanc) LeBlanc (abt.1722-1766)
  3. Joseph LeBlanc (1726-1759)
  4. Basile (Leblanc) LeBlanc (1727-1801)
  5. Pierre (Leblanc) LeBlanc (1729-1814)
  6. Marie-Josephe LeBlanc (1731-1807)
  7. Felicite Leblanc (bef.1733-1784)
  8. Cajétan (Leblanc) LeBlanc (abt.1735-1781)
  9. Rose Praxede (Leblanc) LeBlanc (1739-)
  10. Anne (Leblanc) Le Blanc (1742-)

The fate of Joseph and Marguerite during the years of the dispersion isn't known with certainty. They may appear on lists of refugees with their son Basile in New England and possibly were at Meridien circa 1758. They eventually settled in the Richelieu valley of Québec about 1767.

Joseph passed away 19 October 1775 and was buried the next day at Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu, Québec.[4]

Based on the fact that Joseph and Marguerite had a daughter Anne born on 7 Jun 1742 and baptized on 10 Aug, as per baptismal record. I feel Joseph's bio needs updating and item (7. Andre Le Blanc, born on June 7, 1742, and baptized on August 9, 1742, at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Catholic church at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis, Nova Scotia.[10]) needs a 2nd look.:-)

Hi, Judith. I agree that Andre was actually Anne. I simplified the links per our formatting guidelines and put them in date order. Thanks for calling this to our attention. Cindy
