Congratulations!

This week we have your last stop on the guided tour. Hopefully, you're feeling like a WikiTree pro! If not, you can always revisit the tour stops via the comment boxes on the right side of your profile.

You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. Today, we want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions! If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMesssenger Cindy

Monique

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let one of us know if you have questions! If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are coming together and you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now and collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Questions?? Just ask! If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

PS-Good work so far! Have you noticed on ancestor profiles on bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try sometime!

Monique

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Questions? Just ask. :-)

Hi Monique, welcome to WikiTree. I edited the bio of one of the profiles for you: Rousseau-932. Before you venture further into the earlier 18th century - be aware that many / most of the South African genealogical lines and profiles of that period (and earlier) have already been made. This profile iis a duplicate so Ia merge was proposed of Rousseau-932 with the already existing validated profile of [[Rousseau-309

]] (the profiles of the children will need to be merged as well).

First of all a few handy links to get you started:

  1. Getting Started
  2. Adding to WikiTree.
  3. Pre-1700 Quiz (self-certifying in order to understand better how to de pre-1700 genealogical work on WikiTree)
  4. What are duplicates? Why should and how can they be avoided?
  5. G2G Help - for any questions you may have ....

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project first to learn a bit how everything works here at WikiTree? We are working on help pages for everyone can learn more about WikiTree and how everything works around here.

Our next stop will give you some pointers on how to make your profiles stand out: How to Edit a Profile.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Hi,

I just wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. If you have any questions about WikiTree please feel free to contact me. Michelle~WikiTree Mentor

Hi Monique

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Also noticed you made 162 contributions to Wikitree, thank you! Here at WikiTree we like to have our members involved with others; collaboration is key!

According to your tags I thought you might be interested in our Huguenot Project. Check it out here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Huguenot_Migration . Here is a list of our other WikiTree projects you might like to check out as well: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Projects

Why don't you also stop by the One Name Studies project, to see if there's already a name study for (surname) going on? The current leaders for that are Doug Lockwood and Alison Andrus.

Monique,

You are now a confirmed member and can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. For that reason we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use the site. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow you'll hear from a WikiTree mentor, who will check in to see how you're doing and to answer any questions you might have.

Next week you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can meet some of our members by joining in on our Question of the Week: "Do you have any inventors in your family tree?"

Welcome!

Monique,

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is unlike any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, so we all work together as one collaborative team.

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to tell us about your genealogical interests as you join.

Once you volunteer to help build our global tree, our greeters will confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
