Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
I'm always so excited to bump into another researcher on WikiTree with South African roots 😊
Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project? Besides links to sources, there are help pages that might also be useful.
You've been here so long and have many contributions under your belt already, but maybe some of the links below might prove helpful to you? Many / most of the South African genealogical lines and profiles of the eighteenth and seventeenth periods (and earlier) have already been made. Many have also been validated with primary sources.
If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. I am happy to help!
Hi! I'll confirm you in a sec, but our part one greeting has info you might find helpful, so...
Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site youve ever used.
WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!
Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and youll be on your way!
Welcome to the family! Were really glad youre here.

In the South African Roots Project we have a standards/guidelines ~ a particular one is to please use the correct location name as was used at the time of the event. Another one is name fields on profiles.

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree! Thank you for volunteering.
Not sure how to start? Check out How to Use Wikitree.
Have fun and ask for help in G2G if you need it! WikiTree members are always eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist. Its a fun place too. Take a look at what I mean here, G2Gs Question of the Week: What are some of the ways you have found or used to get your family interested in genealogy?
The G2G forum is a great way to get to know our community, and if you would like to get more involved, see this page for volunteer opportunities.
Happy hunting!
Liz
