I’m hooked on genealogy - its like a giant jig-saw puzzle that never gets completed! I love researching the story about each person, or stopping to do history about the area or what was happening in the world. There have been some fascinating surprises and some very sad stories, but that is what life is all about and I love every minute of it!

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Terri or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Terri (Smokey) Deskins:
Family Tree DNA mtDNA Test Full Sequence, haplogroup T2f, FTDNA kit #N263849, MitoYDNA ID T11909[compare]
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Terri:
Greetings! My 3rd Great Grandfather is Jack Strother Rice from Virginia. I have DNA matches with the descendants of his father and mother. I accomplished a GED Analysis between ZV4817442 (Terri (Smokey) Deskins) and my self A116647 at 3cM, and there is a match which is consistent with over 100 Rice descendants.
Thank you for joining us! I wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. How do you like WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How To Pages been helpful or have they left you with questions?

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
Nicole has gone Emeritus from the Greeters Project and asked me to respond to your question about the merges. All of the managers, except the manager for Mary Nancy (Atterton) Mollett (abt. 1765 - abt. 1787), appear to be active this year, so you should get responses fairly soon. The merges will go to default approval after 30 days if no one rejects them. At that point, anyone who has signed the Honor Code will be able to complete the merges.
You can find the merges and determine their status by using the Find dropdown menu and clicking the Pending Merges option. When the page displays, use the options in the right column to review items that are specific to your work.
You can continue to work on profiles, even those you have proposed merges for, without fear of your edits being lost. When the merge occurs, the information from both edit boxes remains in the resulting profile.
Please do let me know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, even if they seem minor to you. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back to me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier. We are always here to help.
See you in the branches,

PS We have a research tool that makes finding reliable sources easier. I use it all the time and it helps me remember different places to check. To give it a try, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research, scroll down near the bottom of that list, and select Research with RootsSearch (use your WikiTree email & password). There are over 20 websites to access from there. You can read more about the tool in the RootsSearch FAQ.
