"Johann Adam Werner was born before 1707 in Germany. He married Maria Catharina Sigler in Germany, and their older children are recorded in the Evangelische Kirchburch of Massenbach, Schwaigern, Wuerttemburg, Germany. His wife Catharana and their children, John Adam and Catharina eimgrated to America in 1732. The September 18th 1732 passenger list of the galley, Johnson lists each of them by name: Hans Adam Verner (man over 16), his presumed wife, Katharina Verner (woman over 14), presumed son, Adam Verner (boy under 16), and presumed daughter Katharina Verner (Girl under 14).. This is a rare occurence in the records as few ship bothered to list the name of the entire family. This happy occurrence positively identifies the Werner family.
The family members are listed regularly in the church records of St. Georges Lutheran Church in Massenbach, Germany, up to 1731 and completely disappear from the records after that date. (note: St. George was a Catholic saint, however, Massenbach was owned by a petty Luteran noble descended through a knightly order. St George The Dragon Slayer, is traditionally the patron saint of all knights, regardless of their religious affinity.)"
"Adam, the Partiarch of the American Werners and Varners (some of the descendants adopted the spelling VARNER and others remained with WERNER or WARNER) who descend from him became a relatively prosperous farmer in America."
"It is not known when the family moved to Germany Township in Adams County (then York Co.), PA. and the years from 1732 to 1755 are unknown to us. But, aside from his 153 acres, his inventory of personal goods is extensive and includes items of considerable value, such as a smooth bore rifle, a grindstone, 4 books, a cow, and 8 sheep."
"In 1755 as a Highway Commissioner he was responsible for maintenance of roads that were used by farmers to bring their crops to market. This was an important position that was given only to the most responsible of people. It is highly unlikely that Adam was elected to this important position immediately upon arrival in Germany Twp. It is therefore believable that the family had lived there for a number of years and acquired a good reputation before Adam was elected to office."
"Adam also held a number of other elected civil offices. From 1755 on the served consecutive single year terms as Highway Commissioner, Overseer of the Poor, Constable and Tax Collector. Interestingly, in the source of this information, the "Roster of Township Officers, York County, 1749-1800, Adam's surname is spelled "Warner", "Vernor", "Werner" and in 1758 as "Varner", perhaps the earliest, albeit accidental, spelling of the name that was later adopted as the standard spelling of the name by several descending family lines.
"Records of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Manheim, York Co., Less than 10 miles north of the Werner farm, a widower name Adam Werner married a single woman named Catharina Weber in 1763. No other church records for Adam or Catharina or birth or marriage records of their children have been found. Adam's will was recorded and executed by his son Jacob, who inherited the bulk of Adam's estate including the farm. Catharina, whether his original spouse or a later spouse was living at the time of Adam's death in June or July of 1775."[1]

Conflicting information regarding birth, baptism and marriage places. The Johann Adam who married in Massenbach was from Massenbach (birth) and not from Dürkheim (Baptism). Also the attached mother does not fit to the one born in Massenbach. The supposed son´s birth place also does not seem very likely. Probably several profiles got mixed here. More sources needed.

Werner-3215 and Werner-1184 appear to represent the same person because: Looks to me as if these profiles are for the same person. What do others think? JSC
Werner-3215 and Werner-1184 do not represent the same person because: Thanks for bringing this to our attention but these appear to be different men. The source on Werner-3215 cites a wife Catherine and son John born in 1729. But john did not accompany the family on the Johnson Galley in 1732, so the son of Johann Adam must have been born after that in America.
Also, the baptism cited in Werner-3215 was in Baiersbbronn, southwest of Stuttgart almost to Strasbourg, whereas Johann Adam and family are reported in the Massenbach Church books. Massenbach is well north of Stuttgart on the way to Heidelberg.
If his spouse, Katarina Barbara (Catherine) Varner, died 1764 then who might be the individual mentioned in his 1775 probated will... 'my Loving Wife Catherana...' ??
Varner-3 and Werner-1184 appear to represent the same person because: This is clearly the same person. IMHO the LNOB should be the German spelling because he was born in Germany. Varner is an "Other Name". Please retain most of the bio from Varner-3 in the final profile. Also, the wife and kids need to be merged.

There is no evidence that Werner-3215 ever emigrated. So both Sigler-1 and Varner-1413 should be disconnected from him.
