Esther White was probably born in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, about 1685 based on her age at death, the daughter of Jonathan White and his first wife Hester Nickerson.[1]
She married first, at Yarmouth on 07 November 1707,[2][3]John Joyce, the son of Hosea and Elizabeth (Chipman) Joyce, and a descendant of Pilgrim John Howland.[1] John died in Yarmouth on 10 January 1714/5.[4] His will, dated at Yarmouth 28 December 1714 and proved 06 April 1715, named his wife Esther, unmarried daughters Fear and Desire, and his wife's sister Elizabeth White and his brothers.[5]
Her second marriage was to John Drake on 25 June 1719 in Boston, by the Rev. Cotton Mather.[6] John was the son of John and Sarah (King) Drake, born 30 September 1694 in Weymouth.[7] He died in Warwick, Rhode Island, on 21 June 1733 in his 39th year.[8][9]
John Drake's will, dated 16 June 1733 at East Greenwich, Rhode Island and proved 30 June 1733, named his wife Esther, Desire Arnold wife of John, Fear Smith wife of Christopher, daughter Elizabeth Drake under age 18, and son Francis under 21. The inventory of his estate called him a mariner.[1]
She was named in her father's will, dated 14 July 1736, as Esther Drake. In a release dated 14 November 1741 in her father's probate file she was said to be deceased. John Arnold was administrator on the estate of Esther Drake, deceased, and the guardian to Frances Drake, her heir.[10][11]
Esther Drake died on 23 July 1738 aged 53, "wife of Capt. John Drake" and was buried in the Drake-Ladd Burial Ground in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island, where her gravestone still stands.[12][13]
The will of Esther Drake of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, widow, dated 11 July 1738 and proved 29 July 1738, named her daughters Deziah Arnold, Fear Smith and Elizabeth Drake (under 18), and son Francis Drake.[1]
