Goal

The goal of the Kent Team is to make all Kent profiles the best that they can be. Topics

These are the tasks we are currently working on:

1. Overseeing the Kent County Category page and ensuring that it is consistent with the other England County pages

2. Reviewing the place name categories and adding correct category / deleting incorrect category when required.

3. Clearing up the Kent-related data errors / suggestions

4. Connecting up the larger unconnected trees that have people from Kent. We have our own Unconnected Kent Trees page, which can be found here: Unconnected Kent Trees

5. Working on the free-space Kent resources page

6. Working on orphan profiles from Kent

(TL) Christine Searle I was born and brought up in North-West Kent, mainly in Gillingham, attending school in Rochester, and all my lines were in the area by mid-19th century. My father's grandmother was a Tilliduff from Plumstead, and I registered the name with GOONS to break down the brick wall that it created, taking the name back to 14th century Aberdeenshire. So if anybody has Tilliduff in their tree I would be delighted to hear from you. My mother's maternal line is the only true Kentish one, traced back to mid 17th century in the Meopham area. I enjoy sourcing and adding a biography to neglected people.
Marion Ceruti My main interest in Kent is in the ship-building industry and my seagoing ancestors on my maternal grandfather's side. I have categorized various English profiles on my watchlist into (mostly) Kent county-specific categories at the finest level of categorization possible. So far, I have worked on Deptford, Ramsgate, and Woolwich profiles. I need some help on the St. Nicholas profiles for Ramsgate, which has multiple sub-profiles.
Carol Keeling I'm working as a data doctor, trying to clear as many Kent related errors as I can. I mainly concentrate on location, gender and biography errors, and would love to collaborate with anyone else here who has spare time to help. I'm also a connector, and will be looking at some of the larger unconnected trees for our county.
Sarah Long Numerous lines in my tree are in the Kent area so will be working on getting those loaded. I am currently working through the Kent Suggestions for changes to try and clean up where I can.
Steve Maxted Steve has researched his family back as far as records will allow, to John Maxted & Dorothy Short, 13 generations back and both born in the mid-1600s. He has written a book on his MAXTED genealogy, and compiled a family tree as well. All the individuals on this line that are listed on wikitree are well documented. Steve has been researching for over 30 years, having lived in Bournemouth, England for 5 years, and has been back to the 'home county' - Kent, over a dozen times. He has worked with professional genealogists on both sides of the Atlantic and is well versed in the ways of Kent and things Kentish. He welcomes any enquiries and is happy to make intelligent referrals regarding established Kent-based genealogists as well as Kent-based heritage properties.
Andrea Pack
Frances Halliday I was brought up in north west Kent and have ancestors from Kent on both sides of my family. I have been working on my family tree for many years but it is not yet all on Wikitree by a long way. I have just completed the Orphan Trail and I will see what I can do to help. I never realised before how many resources are available on Wikitree.
Maureen Fearn I live in NW Kent and will be working on profiles in my mother's line mainly Ag Labs in Mereworth, East Peckham and surrounding villages. My husband's ancestors worked in the Sheerness and Chatham shipyards and more recently in Woolwich. I'm very new here but will try to lend a hand with the Suggestions sheet items too.
Rosalie Neve I live in Australia and I am mainly working on my children's Neve family ancestors. I am attempting to confirm the stories and provide sources to support them, that have been handed down in the family from father (or grandfather) to son (or grandson) for over 400 years before I married in
Ian Acworth I live in Sydney, Australia and have been working on a number of Acworth's based around the Naval Docks at Chatham. Particularly in the 1600s and 1700s with Peter Pett, Samuel Pepys et al. If you are interested in this Dockyard - the FreeReg site for Chatham: St Mary the Virgin is amazing. I have had 145 hits on the Acworth name between 1663 and 1880. This was the main church for the dockyard for several 100 years. Some pics on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Acworth-59 for interest.
Carol Collins
Julia Harris I live in two places, in Acton London when working and in Normandy France otherwise. There is a family myth that we are related to the Baker's of Sissinghurst Castle, hence me wanting to be part of the Kent County Group. I have spent time on my own profiles, and now want to give a little love to other Kent Profiles, so will spend some time working through the suggestions.
Mary Spradley Morken Having just completed OT1 and gaining new skills and new resources, I'm working on adding the profiles for my father's Sprackling (and related families) ancestors to this project, including an infamous uncle who murdered his wife and to whom I am indebted for causing many more legal documents for the family: Adam Sprackling of Ellington House. My Sprackling line immigrated to early Virginia and came West. While I was born in California, we now live in Wyoming near Yellowstone, and I watch the wildlife out my cabin window while I research everyday. I enjoy editing when I tire of dead ends in research, and Kent feels like my genealogical earliest-known home so I will enjoy working on suggestions too. (May 2021)
Jeremy Stroud I was born Essex, studied Nottingham, worked West Berlin & Rijswijk (The Hague), living Amsterdam for 30 yrs. My father's father's family are mostly from Kent & East Sussex. Started genealogy 20 yrs ago & have just finished OT1. In Kent I've researched a few lines back to 15th C - Denne, Nethersole, Willard, but most stop in 16th C (1558). I enjoy transcribing old wills (Old English) but struggle hard with Latin, apart from probates. I'm a member of KFHS & SFHG & have visited the NA at Kew, SoG London, Middlesex, Westminster, CFKS Maidstone, ESRO (Lewes) & The Keep Brighton. Stopped working in 2019 (ill-health), so home most of day. Have a lovely Bulldog Violet to get me away from my PC & an understanding husband to distract me from linking up all my managed profiles in Kent & elsewhere. Mother from London, Middlesex, Norfolk, Dorset, Somerset, Leicestershire & Ireland. I have a few cousins in Kent, one does research with me. I believe in the One Tree!
Joyce Carley I am from Toronto, Canada but my grandfather was born in Kent. His mother was also from Kent (north coast and Thanet) but his father was from Sussex so I have very deep roots in both counties. Also have families on my tree who lived in parts of London that used to be in Kent (e.g. Woolwich). I am mostly retired now but did work as a software developer and, more recently, in health care. Just finished the OT1 and am in the process of putting my family tree on Wikitree.
Cordelia Jackman I looked up my first family history records 60 years ago, but getting to know the internet was hard for me because I left work before it was in general use. Wikitree has been particularly challenging, but I am gradually doing profiles for my ancestors and learning about Wikitree. I have just finished the OT1 and have decided to join the Kent group because this county features the most often in my mainly London and home counties based family tree. I am an Essex girl and have lived in Spain for nearly 20 years. I feel that I am getting to know Kent from afar, having links with the county from Hythe to Woolwich, taking in particularly the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells areas. I'll continue to add my ancestors and do what I can to help expand and improve the Kent profiles.
Danny Eagleton Many of my English ancestors and their families come from western Kent, generally in or around the Sevenoaks district, at least as far back as the early 1700s. It seems that there was then a mass migration to the south London area in the mid-1800s, but pockets of family still remained in Kent. The history and villages of west Kent are of interest to me, and I enjoy burrowing down local rabbit holes as it's not hard to find family connections, whether it be people, places, or things.
Gillian McKenna I started researching my family history over 20 years ago now. Initially I was intrigued by the surname of my father's maternal grandmother, Rammell which is quite unusual. I found out that the Rammells originated from Kent (especially the Isle of Thanet) and my research led to lots of other interesting families: Collard, Boys, Wootton, Gyles, Ladd, Hawker, Twysden, Gibbon, Searles (Serlys), Rose, Lewknor. I don't live in the UK but in Montpellier France therefore I mostly carry out my research on the internet. I was born in West Yorkshire and I still go there to visit family by car passing through Kent of course. I started using Wikitree about a year ago. Up till then I kept my tree privately on FTM. I felt that Wikitrees was the best place to put my data.

I'd like to thank all the members of the Kent team for their contributions over the last year. We've come very high in the rankings for all areas of improvements to profiles, particular mentions being connections, sourcing, and Unknowns. In view of the size of the county this is very impressive. Thank you everyone!
