my ggg grandmother is Betsey Trask (Trask-559).  Perhaps her given name was Elizabeth?  She was born 16 Feb 1811 in New York, died 7 Aug 1896 in Morristown, Rice, Minnesota.  Married to Luke Chapin Jr. about 1834 probably in New York.  Who were her parents?   Ancestry.com doesn't have the answer, can you help figure it out?  Thanks.

Dear Cheryl,

The 1850 census of the Luke & Betsey (Trask) Chapin family has five other children.  Have you been able to trace them?  Often, relatives show up in households in the census listings.  This might give you more clues.

Happy hunting!  -NGP

Great Puritan Migration   I have been searching the earlier Trasks in England and America on Wikitree and elsewhere.  I came across the following reference which is not listed under William Trask of the Great Puritan Migration.  Hope this may be helpful and pique interest for someone to assist me with my Betsey Trask.  Catalog Record: Representative men and old families of Rhode Island, Volume 3, page 1524  | Hathi Trust Digital Library. http://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record010029696

Thank you, Nanette.  I will begin searching children of Luke and Betsey tomorrow.  Appreciate your insight.

Cheryl

Hey Cheryl,

I've done a little research on Luke & Betsey Chapin on Ancestry and found some census records I'm sure you've already seen, but I thought I should let you know about the family anyways just in case I can help.  1850 Fed Census of Preble, NY shows Luke (39), Betsey (36), Asa (15), Amanda (10), Jane (8), John (6), Mary (4), & Lucetta (1).  1855 Truxton, NY Census shows Luke (44), Betsey (41), Lorenso (20), James (13), John (11), Mary (9), Lucetta (7), Charlotte (5), & Alvin (1).  1860 Fed Census of Morristown, MN shows Luke (49), Betsey (46), Jane (18), John (16), Mary (14), Lucetta (11), & Charlotte (9).

So the family is Luke & Betsey with at least these children:  Asa, Amanda, Jane, John, Mary, Lucetta, Charlotte, & Alvin (died young).

Maybe you can find the other families from the children.  More importantly, there are AT LEAST 5 DIFFERENT TREES on Ancestry with Luke & Betsey in them, but they are all private, so I can't see who is in them.

I'll keep digging for you!
