Getting Started - Would love your general feedback

Hi all,

I have made my first serious try at some profiles and would love your feedback about anything and everything - style, tagging, sourcing, next steps etc.

My g-grandfather and his brother and two sisters all came over from England.  We have pretty good records on him.  I'm still scanning the diary he kept about his trip.  He also shows up in the 1880 and 1900 censuses.  It's a bit harder to track down stuff on his brother and two sisters. I don't seem to be having much luck with immigration records for them. The brother especially I would think I could find more on, since he seems to have been a fairly prominent guy.  Would love your thoughts about tags I could add to their profile, anything else I should update, and hints about next places to look.

Wow! Really EXCELLENT work!

I did some aesthetic changes... since you asked :D

I tend to order the categories chronologically. On the profile that also had a cemetery category, I added the [[Category:Louisiana Families]] category before it. The Louisiana Families category is added by the {{Louisiana Family}} template, so it will be last in order unless you also add it manually. It's last, because I recommend the {{Louisiana Family}} template follow the Migrating Ancestor template. Again, chronology. The person came to Louisiana before they lived there, But I also think the templates look better when the migrating one is above the {{Louisiana Family}} one - which I've now realized I don't mention on the project page. I also don't mention how to change the origin flag (I've changed them from the French to the British flag - Flags-3.jpg instead of Flags.png).

For future reference - Flag images can be found

That last was just one link from under the table on [Category:Flag Images].

Again, really nice work!

and now the [Templates] section on the Louisiana Families Project page has that info too. Thanks!

Thank you so much.  I didn't even notice about the flag haha!
I didn't until the last one... it was one of those "slap my forehead" moments - couldn't believe I hadn't noticed on the other three!

Your profile on Sarah looks great, you just need to add more sources. Did she marry?  If so, put her married name in the "current name" field. Look at Familysearch.org. for starters and Find A Grave..

Is this your Sarah?

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N28F-JQ1 : 30 December 2014), Sarah Ann Yates, 12 Mar 1843; citing Holy Trinity, Dorchester, Dorset, England, reference ; FHL microfilm 1,279,495.

"England and Wales Census, 1861," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7HK-7X8 : 6 April 2016), Sarah Yates in household of Catherine Mousley, Burton On Trent, Staffordshire, England; from "1861 England, Scotland and Wales census," database and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : n.d.); citing PRO RG 9, The National Archives, Kew, Surrey.

Thank you!  it is good to know I am on the right track!

That is definitely her in Burton On Trent! Thank you so much!  The family does not think she was ever married though and also no record of them in Dorset so I would guess that one is not her.
Glad I could help.  Good luck on your research.
It looks good Crispin.  I would also encourage you to increase your sources, especially the use of in-line sourcing.  Also, there is a bit of a push to use complete names in the data fields including county and country names.
I see what you mean.  Thank you so much.  Am working on finding more sources!
