What does 'Affiliation' mean on a Portuguese Passport?

I'm working on Gonçalves_Pereira-5 and am struggling, as usual, finding Portuguese records. Antonio was born in Portugal and may have stayed there with his wife Florinda Rosa. His son João Gonçalves Pereira [[Gonçalves_Pereira-4|Joao Pereira]] was born 2 Jul 1854 in Azores, Portugal. My other relatives near that line are from Madalena do Mar, but I can't find John (João) in their records (I have baptisms, passport indexes, etc for others).

At any rate - in looking for any records with the names Antonio Pereira and Florinda (in hopes of finding the right region) I found a passport record for a Luis Antonio Pereira de Matos. I have seen the parents listed on other passports, but this one says 'Affiliation: António Pereira e Florinda Rosa' ... are these relatives? Does anyone know what the Affiliation is used for?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Mindy

“Affiliation” (in Portuguese “Filiação”), simply means Father and Mother.
