Magna Carta Project Challenge

2018 May Challenge: "5 in the 5th" - clear the "Needs=" maintenance category or categories from five profiles in the 5th Month to earn a Challenge Met! sticker.

What and When? To meet this month's Challenge, you must answer this G2G post. Step by step...

  1. Post an answer that you're participating.
  2. Go to our [Maintenance Categories page] & pick one of the "Needs" categories (except the "Needs Review and Approval" category).
  3. Pick a profile from the category & edit (or comment on) your answer here to say which profile you picked.
  4. Do whatever needs done to clear all the "Needs" maintenance categories from the profile (again, excluding "Needs Review and Approval") & delete the needs=.entry/entries from the project box or sticker.
  5. Edit your answer (or comment) to say you're done with that profile.
  6. Repeat from step 2 until you've liberated 5 profiles from their neediness.

You have till midnight your time on May 31 to complete the Challenge (in other words, you must update your answer or comment with the WikiTree IDs of five profiles and that you've finished clearing the Needs= categories from them before then).

Tips:
. If you don't have a pre-1500 badge, you'll need to pick profiles of people born after 1500.
. If you have a pre-1500 badge, be kind and don't pick post-1500 profiles.
. If you don't have access to Richardson's works, don't pick a profile from "Needs Source Check"
. If you have limited time, don't pick a profile with multiple "Needs" - you'll need to clear them all (excluding Needs Review and Approval) before you're done with the profile.
. If you pick a "Needs Re-Review" or "Needs Development" profile, check out the new checklist.
. If the profile notes that the Needs Development or Needs Re-Review applies to the entire trail - don't panic. Let me know & I can move the "entire trail" part to another profile & you can do the development and/or re-review just for that profile.

Who can play? Magna Carta Project Challenges are open to project members and affiliates. See our join post if you'd like to become a member & see [this page] for information about being an affiliate. Either way (member or affiliate), you are encouraged to join the project's "Profile Alerts Google Group", which is tied to the project account, WikiTree-36.

What's the reward? Improving Magna Carta profiles and a Challenge Met! sticker.

3. Roger Clifford (cleared the two Needs= categories it started with & the Source Check one I added during the re-review)

4. Maud (Lacy) de Clare (cleared the Needs=Re-review maintenance category)

While you're there, I have doubts about the existence of his daughter Elizabeth and her husband John de Mauteby.  I suspect John is just a clone of his own grandson John.

This is about creating Magna Carta lines for John Calthorpe of Burnham

https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Mautby-Family-Tree-1

Jim Weber's version looks cleaner

https://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=jweber&id=I25233&style=TABLE

Big differences in some of the dates.

Richardson doesn't support any of these lines.

Thanks! I was doing a re-review along with the source check... thought I could knock it out quickly before logging off for the night. Nope! Had to do an "in progress" save.
did some work on the Mautebys, but I'm sure they could use more. Did detach Elizabeth as daughter of Robert & Margery, did some merges, and added lots of comments. But as slow as I am, I need to focus on the challenge (took me 4 days to finish with Robert's profile!).

Cheers, Liz

Welcome Dash! Drop by the project's Google Group & send a request to join (include your WikiTree ID so I know who it is).

As for broken connections... If you think they're in error, you can post a G2G question from the profile - tag it magna_carta, at least - or post a comment to WikiTree-36 (an e-mail copy of your comment goes to the Google Group). BUT. There are a lot of connections in WikiTree between Gateway Ancestors and Surety Barons that are not supported and need to be broken. And there have been a couple Gateways recently that have the Richardson-documented trail in question (see for example [this G2G discussion]).

Cheers, Liz
