You would have to download a gedcom from Ancestry, then upload it here. But once you upload it here, it is not automatically uploaded as on other sites. We only have one profile per person because we collaborate on profiles. So, you'll get a list of possible matches for each person and you'll have to go through your people one by one to put them on wikitree. Also, chances are Ancestry sources will get all jumbled and have to be re-formatted for readability.

The other option (which I recommend) is to just add your people from Ancestry. You will be able to copy/paste the sources as you go. I like to go to the list of all people in my Ancestry tree and start there.

An Ancestry gedcom comes out something like this profile and will need a lot of clean up:

I use two windows. Ancestry on one and WikiTree on the other. You can start with ancestors who are already on WikiTree and work from there. It doesn't matter if you do not have any ancestors on WikiTree already of course, you'll just add your ancestors and work your way up!

Obviously Lucy, you haven't used the new GEDCOMpare.  Here is a GEDCOMpare import I brought in last week for folks to see how it now brings in the data from Ancestry.

Milton Daugherty

You'll see it is much cleaner than the Profile you used, which was uploaded in 2010.  Things have changed quite a bit since then through the hard work of those involved on the technical end of GEDCOMpare.  Does it still need to be cleaned up to make it easier on the eyes? Yes, but much quicker now and beats the heck out of typing everything in.

Debbie, you may want to take a look at this page I put together of GEDCOMpare tips, hints and helps for the first time GEDCOMpare user. Also some general tips on creating a Profile.  Good whether you use a GEDCOM file or add manually.

GEDOM File Primer

However, I do strongly suggest you manually add some of those in your tree manually to get the feel of WikiTree and using the Edit Box to create the style you wish your Profiles to have before using GEDCOMpare.

Oh, and welcome to WikiTree Debbie!!!

If you do decide to enter them manually, and you use Chrome as your browser, then there is an extension called WikiTree X which works with Ancestry. This adds a button to add an Ancestry profile to WikiTree - you will probably still have to add detail and sources as you go, but it does make the process easier as names and dates and locations will be carried over.

Here is an old post about it
