These names are all in Wayne and Bollinger counties, Missouri.  I am trying to determine if Ernest Alexander McCowan (1884-1921), married to Sarah Salina Bennett and father of Carmen Inez McCowan and Mary Ellen McCowan, is a descendent of Richard Dicky Cowan, jr.  (b. 1837) and Eleanor "Nelly" McGhee.  I've found what appears to be a connection through their daughter, Mary Francis Cowan.  The birthdate of Ernest A. McCowan is variously given, but within a range of a year or two.

His parents are listed on his death cert.  as Joel McCowan and Mary Cowan.  You might want to try to get an original to see if there are more details.  Maybe Mary is the dau. of Richard and Eleanor?
