Are you interested in improving the profiles of Mayflower passengers and their families?

The Mayflower Project currently covers the passengers of the Mayflower, their wives, and their descendants for two generations or born before 1700, which ever is more inclusive. Please note that all Mayflower passengers and most of their family members already have profiles on WikiTree and should not be duplicated. Can’t find yours? Please ask.

Anyone who has signed the Honor Code and has the Pre-1700 badge is invited to join the project.

To Join - Follow these Directions:

  1. Read the Project page.
  2. Ask yourself: Do I actively want to participate in the project and contribute to the  Mayflower Project goals? See Project FAQ
  3. Add mayflower to your Followed Tags on your profile.
  4. Post an answer (not a comment) below, introducing yourself, and sharing why you are interested in the Mayflower Project and who your ancestor is (if you have one). Add yourself to the participants list

If you simply want to acknowledge that you are the descendant of a Mayflower passenger and honor that passenger, Mayflower has a Sticker you can add to your profile.

I'm Elizabeth and a descendant of Isaac and Mary Allerton and possibly Elizabeth Howland.  I'm currently working on verifying through primary sources ancestral connections to PGM and Mayflower immigrants.  I have been doing genealogical research on my family since the 1990's.
Hello Elizabeth, you just posted a comment. Please go back to the top and post an answer instead. Thank you
I have recently received my Mayflower certificate as a descendant of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley (and her parents).  I also recently discovered that my great grandmother is a descendant of Bradford and possibly a Brewster connection.  I would like to learn more about these connections.
I would also like to add the Harding line to the Howlands.
Maxine Bubar Crouch

Congratulations on chasing down your ancestor and proving the connection. You should add mayflower to your followed G2G tags.

I am cousins with Richard More Sr and Agnes Cooper.  I would like to join the project.
Michelle and Kathleen. It is necessary that you post an answer, not a comment.

MIchelle, you need to pre-1700 certify

Kathleen:

You said: "I’m having the same problem I’m confused also"
What problem? If you can't figure out how to answer: go back to the top of the page. At the end of the Question. a line that says:

"edit close hide answer comment"

click the link that says answer to post an answer

A comment earlier questioned a relationship. Specifically, the question was if you are a direct descendant of a Mayflower passenger and thus his ancestral line, are you also related to the spouses line. The answer in my opinion is yes. Just as you are related to both of your grandparents, those relationships continue as long as it's a direct line and not a collateral line.

As a professional researcher as well as the State Registrar for the Massachusetts CAR, I wanted to prove at least one line for the experience in order to assist others who had interest.  John Howland was my first target for entry into the GSMD. However, the research was too sketchy as 3 generation lived in upstate New York on the early- to mid-19th century. Vital and any other type of records are scarce at best.

Finally, I was admitted as a descendant of William Brewster along with my daughter. Soon we'll be applying to admit my grandchildren. There are a few others that I can research including Edward Fuller, Samuel Fuller and if I can ever prove John Howland, the Tilley line.

Hi Dave,

If you're wanting to join the Mayflower Project, there is a new thread started here: Joining the Mayflower Project

Be sure to *answer* on that page, not comment like you've done here so that we see your posting. There are a few other requirements listed on that post, too, so be sure to read up a bit on the Project.

Hello, I'm Tayla. I'm interested in tracking down my ancestors about as far back as reasonably possible. I have a massive interest in history, both my own and globally. I'm descended from several lines including the Ramsden(or Ramsdell), Hersey, and Chubbucks.

Hi, My name is Heather.  I found out a couple of years ago that William Brewster is my 12th great grandpa on my moms side. I have enjoyed researching  everything about him. Just recently through the relationship finder, I found that Stephen Hopkins is my 11th great grandfather also on my moms side, and found a few mayflower cousins from my dads side. Now I  need to research those lines. I'm also trying to apply for the Elder Brewster Society , and GSMD.

I am William B. Tracy III descended from Mayflower passengers Richard Warren and Edward Fuller through the pedigree of my amazing paternal grandmother Beatrice Peck. I have spent time verifying my Mayflower connections and documenting my lineage on WikiTree, FamilySearch and Ancestry, and got the "Silver Books" to help with that process. Looking forward to the 2020 festivities!

Yes.

Hi. My ID is Taylor-47387. I am descended from three Mayflower passengers: Stephen Hopkins, his daughter Constance Hopkins Snow and Joseph Rogers. I am currently working with the Texas chapter of the Mayflower Society to document my Mayflower lineage. I believe it is well documented here on WikiTree through multiple profiles managed by me, with sources added. I'm always eager for feedback and collaboration. I'll help with whatever I can on the Mayflower Project itself.

Welcome to the Mayflower Project.
How are you related to Joseph Rogers? I am directly related to both Thomas and Joseph Rogers and am a GSMD member. I am always interested in learning about other "cousins". Drop me a line  if you so choose.

Hi, I'm Peggy (Haskell-1588).  I am a direct descendant of John Alden, Isaac Allerton, Mary Allerton, John Billington, William Brewster, James Chilton, John Howland, Sr., William Mullins, Thomas Rogers, Joan Hurst Tilley, John Tilley, and Mary Chilton Winslow.  When I became an active Wikitreer about a year ago, I only knew of two of those ancestors. I enjoy research and have access to AmericanAncestors.org,

I am working on my Mayflower ancestors and want to make sure that I have the correct information and proofs. My grandfathers grandmother was a Gooding and that is the line where they enter my family tree. William Bradford, Richard Warren, William Brewster, Stephen Hopkins and Francis Cook are some of the ancestors. They come from the Benjamin Barnes and Experience Rider line and Constant Hopkins and Phoebe Paine line as well as others. Thank you for getting all of the important information and sharing it!
by anonymous G2G Crew (500 points)

First I apologize for not responding sooner. Responses to this thread seem to have been misplaced in my email. I wish you good hunting in your pursuit of ancestors. When you've traced your ancestors back to the mid 1750s you may be able to connect them using the Mayflower published silver and pink books that you should be able to access at state libraries and genealogical libraries.

If you want information on what proofs are needed contact your state Mayflower Society.

Hello Anne B....Yes, I would like to actively participate in the project and contribute to the Mayflower Project. I'm a senior long-time amateur genealogist in our family. While following my grandmother's ancestors, I came upon the Howland and Soule connection, learning recently that they were directly related to either the Mayflower Project or the Puritan Great Migration Project. My ancestor was Sarah Soule, and I would be interested in collaboration with others on this effort.
by David Charbonneau G2G6 (8.3k points)
I am really sorry I did not respond sooner, the emails regarding this thread went astray. I am descended from George Soule also and happy to have another Soule researcher, we have a nice little group that works regularly on the Soule profiles.

Yes, I'm interested in joining the Mayflower project! Thank you to all who are contributing to this! It has been family lore that we are Mayflower descendants (John Alden and Priscilla Mullens) and as the sole (immediate) family member now living in Massachusetts I have set out to see if this is true or not.  Most of my reliable/known info comes from the family lines of the names Leonard, Thayer, and Bowker from the Berkshires (Savoy and Pittsfield). I'm eager to trace the line back to Plymouth and see the different branches that came over and am happy to help source along the way.  Thanks for the add!

Sarah, I apologize for not responding sooner. The emails from this question have gone astray.

Welcome to the Mayflower Project. My plan is to start updating the Alden profiles shortly. You'll get a notice in your G2G feed. We can use all the help we can get.

I am descended from Thomas and Joseph Rogers. My GSMD # is 95,245 NY 6336. I am also a member of the Thomas Rogers Society #851.I would  be interested in knowing more about my ancestry and/or helping others who have similar goals.
by Frederick Rogers G2G6 Mach 1 (13.3k points)

Hello Frederick, Thank you for your interest in the Mayflower Project. If you haven't already done so, make sure to add mayflower to your G2G tags (on the right side of your profile) so that you get notified of questions about Mayflower ancestors. Belonging to the Mayflower project does require that you are Pre-1700 certified, so I am unable to give you the Mayflower Project Badge at this time. But feel free to ask again when you certify.

what do I need to do to certify for pre 1700?
Follow the link in my response above. The underlined Pre-1700 Certified.
I did what you suggested and now am pre-1700 certified. Now what do I need do?

Hi Frederick, you must have contacted me in Sept of last year, because I gave you the Mayflower badge, back then. The Rogers family profiles that are part of the Mayflower project have all been recently updated. If you are looking for someway to contribute, I would suggest creating and sourcing profiles for the ancestors between you and the ones in the project.

Thanks Ann. I apologize for my repetitions. I will get the hang of it as i watch others.

I currently have found eleven direct ancestors who were Mayflower passengers:

John Alden
Alice Atwood
Elder William Brewster
James Chilton
Francis Cooke
Edward Dotey
Susanna Furner
Stephen Hopkins
Priscilla Mullins
Richard Warren
William White

There are a few more who were descendants who were also Mayflower passengers.

I find the research and DNA parts of the search very fulfilling. I received the family researcher mantle from my maternal aunt Margaret Warrington Compton (now deceased). She was a proud DAR member. She'd be absolutely thrilled and delighted at my discoveries going back to Colonial times. She'd be joining the Mayflower Society for sure. For me, the search success is enough.

Greetings, I am Rev. Frederick W. Rogers GSMD#95,245. I am a direct descendant of Thomas (and his son Joseph) Rogers, both of whom were aboard the Speedwell prior to it being deemed not seaworthy enough to make the journey to the New World. They both sailed on the .Mayflower. I am interested in knowing more about the voyage and perhaps communicating with other like minded folks. Godspeed.
by Frederick Rogers G2G6 Mach 1 (13.3k points)

Congratulations on your new pre-1700 badge, and welcome to the Mayflower Project. The project has been working on updating the "Rogers" Project profiles in keeping with the Mayflower Society books. We are on the home stretch. There are just a few profiles that need to be looked at and updated. Take a look at the team page. If you have access to the silver book for Rogers, we'd love to have some help. Here's an example of what we're looking for.

I do have access to the Silver book for Rogers. How may I be of assistance?

Hi, I am a descendant of John Alden and possibly other Mayflower passengers. I have a copy of the article series from The Mayflower Descendant written by Alicia Crane Williams about the various origin theories for John Alden. I was considering adding some explanations of these theories to the John Alden bio, or even creating a separate page discussing all of them (can you do that in WikiTree?).

I think if visitors to WikiTree had access to the various unproven theories of John Alden's origins along with references and links to the corresponding sources, perhaps it would reduce the spread of misinformation about his ancestry.

Pretty new to WikiTree, still trying to figure out how things work around here. Let me know what you think of my idea.

by Mary Koeven G2G1 (1.4k points)

I think that would be an excellent idea. Create a Free space page.

Welcome to the Mayflower Project

I created the page (John Alden Parentage Possibilities). I would like to put a link to it on the John Alden profile, but for some reason I cannot add wikilinks to that profile. The link turns red and redirects to a page that reads: "The action you have requested is limited to users in the group Supervisors."

I've added the link. Feel free to alter the text to what you want.

It looks good. Thank you.
