Biography
Elizabeth married Ephraim Osborne around the 1740s, the unreliable sources vary on exact year.[1][2][3] These sources list her birth as 1723 in Virginia.
Her parentage is uncertain, and no reliable primary source identifies her maiden name, though a lot of personal trees list her without evidence as the daughter of John Howard and Elizabeth Gassaway, as they also do with Hannah, the wife of Ephraim's possible brother Caleb Osborne.
She is also frequently confused for, or incorrectly assumed to be the same person as, Elizabeth (Howard) Wells, who married (only) Thomas Wells; the 27 Apr 1714, Baltimore birth date and place come from that Elizabeth. There is also no actual evidence of "Melvina" or any other middle name.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Howard-6368 and Howard-479 do not represent the same person because: This stems from the confusion between two different Elizabeth Howards: the one who married Ephraim Osborn and the one that married Thomas Wells. They are demonstrably different individuals.
Howard-23490 and Howard-479 appear to represent the same person because: same/similar dates, same children, no source for mother on Howard-23490, can be added later with sources
Howard-20706 and Howard-479 appear to represent the same person because: These two have same husband family and death date and location. Birth date needs to be verified before merging. These two are duplicates and need to be merged
Howard-20706 and Howard-479 appear to represent the same person because: These two have same husband family and death date and location. Birth date needs to be verified before merging. These two are duplicates and need to be merged
For what it's worth... I have a Facebook group called Howard and Allied Families. For all sides of my family, but has a lot of Howards, and from 3 different lines.
I am from Matthew Howard line (Howard-8458) but am getting a lot of legitimate DNA matches with the Howards from the line with Chloe Osborne/Samuel Howard. And have over a dozen more, so far, (probably many more left to find), with my Ancestry matches.
Here is a link to my FB page, if anyone is interested.

This is a note to all researchers, not just Melissa Merrero: The Millennium File and the U.S. and International Marriage Records are quite useless except as a starting point. For the most part, both are based on an Ancestry.com tree. They are not records. Contact Yates Publishing for their original source. You will probably find, as I did, that its not connected to the person you are actually researching and/or they it's based on Family Group Sheets submitted by congregants of the Mormon Church. These are not sources. They might send you to a source, but you have to eyeball the actual record to be sure.
What was the actual record submitted with the S.A.R. Application? Whose application was it? Perhaps I can find the record if I know which person made the submission.
This is a buried, but informative post. I'm glad I found it.
My current understanding, at least in the South, is that official birth records could be created by our government based on the record in a family Bible. In other words, if a parent or grandparent recorded the birth of a child's name and birth date in their personal family Bible, officials would accept it as a fact.

Where is the evidence that Hannah Howard is Ephraim's wife? This is the problem with wikitree: TOO MUCH MERGING! Hannah had Sheri Havens says Hannah was married to Caleb. A note says her parentage is questionable. This was a merge made over my objections.
Howard-12857 and Howard-479 do not represent the same person because: The only difference I see in these two profiles is the birthdate. I would like to see a source for the more exact April birthdate before we merge these two and the perhaps bogus birthdate becomes 'fact' as it has in Ephraim's profile.
The merge if Howard-6358 and Howard-479 was accomplished without taking Ephraim's children away from Thomas Wells' wife (Howard-479) AND without dropping the Wells name in the merge.
So we still have Elizabeth Howard Wells Osborne... that's wrong. Elizabeth Howard Wells is a different person from the wife of Ephraim. Quoting Seely Foley, "The Joshua Howard who was married to Joanna O'Carroll had a daughter named Elizabeth. According to genealogist Robert Barnes (and to genealogist James Quinn) this Elizabeth married a man named Thomas Wells. I have removed her as the daughter of Howard-6369 until there is documentation of a relationship."
Please approve and merge.
