Webb may have married Susan Logsdon by the early 1840s, although this is speculative. She had apparently died by about 1845, since he married Luvisa Tharp (or Thorp) in about 1846.[2] If there was an earlier marriage, it apparently left no living children, since Luvisa's first child, Louisa, was the oldest child found on the 1850 census.
In 1860 Webb owned no real estate and was, therefore, probably renting or leasing his farm or working as a farmer on someone else's land near Munfordville in Hart County.[24] Ten years later, he had moved from the vicinity of Munfordville to near Priceville, where he owned land valued at $200.[25]
In April of 1904, George Webster Logsdon died in Hart County, Kentucky of "paralises" at the age of 81.[26]
Research Notes
United States Census, 1840:
It is unlikely that the 1840 census identification is correct, if Webb Logsdon was born in 1823, since it shows one male, age 20-30, and one female, age 20-30, and one female child, less than 5 years old. In 1840, Webb would have been about 17 years old. While it is possible the census enumerator could have erred by three years in estimating his (and possibly his wife's) age, it seems somewhat unlikely (although it is possible) that he married this young.[27]
'United States Census, 1870:
The census enumerator's notes for his canvas of Hart County in 1870 apparently missed including Napoleon Louis Logsdon's surname in his enumeration, so it would appear that the "---- N. B." (probably from an assumption that someone named "Napoleon" would be named "Napoleon Bonaparte") of Line 9, beginning Family No. 160, and then Nancy, his wife, and their oldest child, Mary, were named Sanders, which was the surname of a previous entry in the family of "Logsdon Jas O," (the family patriarch, James Oliver Logsdon) for 10-year-old "Sanders Saul W.,"[28] who was apparently living with James Oliver Logsdon and his current wife, Sarah. Likewise, the entire following family, that of "---- George W." (beginning on Line 12 for Family No, 161) was indexed as "Sanders," most probably for the same reason. This is actually the family of George Webster Logsdon, also a son of James Oliver Logsdon. Without more research it is impossible to say whether the two children whose entries follow Saul's, and who were also part of James Oliver Logsdon's household ("---- Susan," est. age 8, and "---- Nancy J," est. age 6), were actually surnamed Sanders or might have been Logsdons.
