Biography

1776 Project
Private Jacob Smith served with Vermont Republic Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Jacob Smith is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A105631.

Both DAR records and Find A Grave indicate that Jacob Smith, the son of Thomas Smith and Eunice Russell, was born July 7, 1742, but it appears that it is much more likely that his birthdate was July 7, 1749.

Jacobus gives his birth as 7 July 1749. According to Jacobus, on December 10, 1742 his parents had a son Thomas, making the 7 July 1742 birthdate for Jacob impossible.[1] [Additional information from Jacobus: On the 1790 census, Jacob Smith and his family were in South Hero, Vermont (1-5-2).]

The East Haven Town Meeting Book 2, page 49, says Jacob, son of Thomas, was born 7/7/1749.

And the Ricker Compilation of Vital Records, on page 11696 says "Jacob, son of Thomas, b. 7 Jul 1749".

According to his Find A Grave Memorial, Jacob Smith was one of Chateaugay, New York's first settlers having moved there in 1797. He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War having enlisted in May 1775 in the Vermont Rangers and reached the rank of Major. On 24 December 1772, in Preston, Connecticut, he married Elizabeth Blanchard . The Memorial also lists his three daughters and five sons: Ruth, Eunice, Amazah, Thomas, Stephen, Jacob, Eli B., and Salmon.[2]
