Biography

Maria Magdelene Wilhelm is the daughter of Johann Heinrich Wilhelm and Catherina Harmon was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in December of 1741. Her mother Catherina died when Maria was two years old.

Her father remarried to Anna Elizabeth Scherp (Sharp). The family removed to Peaked Mountain, Virginia (todays McGaheysville, Virginia). Her grandfather Jacob Harmon moved there as well. He donated the land for the Peaked Mountain Lutheran Church near Stony Run. Maria, her husband, her grandfather and other early German settlers are buried in the Peaked Mountain Church Cemetery there. Maria had two son's, Henry David and Adam Price.

Maria WILHELM, whose full name was Maria Magdalena WILHELM, was born on Dec 3, 1741, in Swatara Twp, Lancaster, Pennsylvania and christened on April 16, 1742, with Magdalena HOMANN (Harman/Harmon) as her sponsor and for whom the child was apparently named. From Rev. Stoever's records, page 22 Her brother,Johann Philipp WILHELM, was born on January 28, 1742/1743, and baptized on July 19, 1742/1743, with Philipp Lorentz HOUTZ & wife as sponsors. Apparently, Philipp WILHELM was named for his sponsor. Also from Rev. Stoever's records of Baptisms
