Biography

Mary was born 10 December 1660 at Mohegan (later Norwich), Connecticut, the daughter of Benjamin Brewster and Ann Addis.[1]

She married Samuel Fitch, son of the Rev. James Fitch and Abigail Whitfield Fitch, on 28 Nov 1678 (probably) at Norwich.[2]

Mary Brewster Fitch is thought to have died on 25 August 1751, although no primary source has been found to substantiate this claim.[3]

Research note

Previously given: "She passed away 9 May 1709." This is her mother Anne's death date. [4]

The 9 May 1709 date is not for Mary, it is for her mother Ann. On page 284 of the NEHGR, there is no death date mentioned.

the BIRTHPLACE for this record is incorrect, according to that same NEHGR pg 284, as Benjamin had sole possession of Brewsters Neck, his father's property on the river. The municipality of this property has shifted many times since, but "Colony of Connecticut" is a true designation for 1660- I've seen Norwich and New London both used. FAG has 1750 for her death. which also is more realistic than dying the same day as her mother (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/142562795). Note- I am not descended from Mary, but her brother William, so my interest is just accuracy.

Brewster-2646 and Brewster-88 are not ready to be merged because: These two Mary's appear to be the same, but death dates are different. According to the New England Historical and Genealogical Record Vol 53, 1899, Mary Ann Fitch nee Brewster died in 1709 (written on her gravestone. https://books.google.com/books?id=SCZSoqEw1pYC&pg=PA284&lpg=PA284&dq=mary+ann+brewster&source=bl&ots=VbxKNrVm_f&sig=_qmZ9erKzLKiizAhOHn1S6gtM1s&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiD4YmLy9jYAhUG3mMKHWQtBxM4FBDoAQgmMAA#v=onepage&q=mary%20ann%20brewster&f=false

Apparently both Samuel & Mary were born in Duxbury, moved to CT where their children Mary, Samuel, Hezekiah, Elizabeth & Abigail were all born at Norwich, New London. The five younger children: a second Samuel, Benjamin, John, Jabez & Pelatiah were all born at Duxbury, Plymouth, MA so they must have moved back to Duxbury before 1688...

The eldest daughter of Benjamin and Anne would have been born where the parents lived at the time- Connecticut. Jonathan Brewster died in 1659 and Benjamin inherited his property and continued to live & be buried at Brewster's Neck. This profile has the wrong birthplace, but a merge with Brewster-2646 is necessary.

Since we are dealing with one person (Mary Brewster) I think it important to merge the two profiles and include the conflicting information in the notes.

I found this apparently serious investigation: https://minerdescent.com/2010/07/24/james-fitch/
